Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

In 2022 I joined the talented team at Retro Studios to help bring the fourth installment in Nintendo's Metroid Prime series to life. I was given the responsibility of being map owner for the opening zone of the game. I was both an individual contributor (modeling, texturing, world building, etc.) and a manager, leading the art production efforts for the entire zone. My duties included but were not limited to:

 

  • Providing feedback to internal and external art teams.

  • Creating briefs to guide artists on best practices and help them maintain the Art Director's vision.

  • Working extensively with the outsourcing team to help manage vendors and ensure submission of high quality work that meets our performance and memory requirements.

  • Collaborating with design leads and feature owners to make sure art supports gameplay and that all in-game interactions function properly.

  • Communicating with leads, directors, and producers across all departments to ensure everyone is working efficiently.

Besides my duties as a map owner, I also contributed to modeling, texturing, and world building of various environments throughout the game. Additionally, I assisted with environment R&D efforts. This includes collaborating with a small group of team members to establish workflows, and creating documentation for internal and external artists to reference.
